Fiumicino Airport FCO - Rome, Italy

Terminal 3 - this is the departure area. This is a true international airport. I didn't realize there were so many airlines.

We landed at Terminal 3 and went through customs.  It took an hour for the luggage to get to the carousel. Fiumicino is large and chaotic.

To get to RomaTermini, I took the Sit Bus at 8 euro sitting in the bus for about an hour.  It's cheaper than taking the Leonardo Express train at 14 euro but if speed is important, the express cuts the time in half.  The Sit Bus stop was outside Terminal 3, following the internal signs for the bus stop.

Termini is large and chaotic. At Termini to use the Metro subway, I bought a ticket for 1 euro at a multi-language ticket machine. It's not that easy to use but if someone shows it, which some one did, it makes it a whole lot easier.

Getting around the subway is relatively easy if you know the English alphabet. Just remember the first few letters of the Italian metro stop name and the name of the last stop of the direction you wish to head to.

                                                             

Riga Airport RIX - Latvia

The flight from Finland to Denmark required a transfer through this airport. We arrived on time and waited a long time. As we lined up for boarding, we were told to wait. We were bumped from our flight to Denmark and we were forced to stay here an extra 8 hours. The airline gave us a voucher for 4.50 Euro for our inconvenience. That's about $5.85 USD that bought only three bottles of water. Food options were limited at this airport.

What a wasted day. The wife wanted to go into town but I kept thinking a flight may open up.

Helsinki Vantaa Airport HEL - Helsinki, Finland

The Helsinki airport has a distinctly more international flare than Reykjavik's airport. Food options are more plentiful also but we didn't try any. We stopped in a few shops to look at food offerings. The Finnish language uses lots of double vowels and consonants.

London Luton Airport LTN

The airport felt more like a large clean bus station.  I didn't realize London had another airport besides Heathrow.

Charles de Gaulle Airport CDG - Paris, France

It was smaller and much less busy than I imagined.

Bubbles Seafood and Wine - Amsterdam Airport Schipol AMS

It felt like we had to go through this airport every time we traveled through Europe.



Narita International Airport NRT- Narita, Japan

Despite the number of people, the environment felt subdued, almost tranquil. The young female Japanese desk attendant that helped check us in was the most polite and courteous attendant I've ever dealt with.  She bowed and handed my passport back with both hands.  If only this courtesy was present stateside...

There are a number of restaurants but we had no yen in our pockets.
